Most people go through life certain of their moral superiority, yet never questioning the morals that were handed down to them by their parents and their grandparents before them. This fact can be illustrated by the numbers of people who attend the same church that their parents did, claim the faith of their parents. But this problem goes far beyond religion and touches the most minor of common beliefs, such as what kinds of food are the right kinds of food to eat.
Here’s a thought experiment. The next time you think you might know something, forget your belief about that thing and go look the subject up in an unusual place. See what you learn while just pretending not to know something. I guarantee that you will get a surprise.
